With God in the Valley
Posted by: | Comments
Recently I’ve been pondering how God leads me, at times, into the valley of the shadow of death, where life is uncertain, the terrain is difficult, and it’s just downright scary at times.
Well, you might say, “God doesn’t do that.” Uh, I beg to differ. The Psalmist David, the one God Himself said was a “man after my own heart”, invited us to explore the reality of walking in that valley. Job, who was called “a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil”, certainly walked through the valley. Jesus Himself was “driven into the wilderness” to be tempted, and on the cross he faced the greatest darkness, as he took my sin and your sin and the sin of all humanity on himself and cried, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Are You Willing to Face Your Struggles?
Posted by: | CommentsWhat have you struggled with lately? Fear? Anger? Resentment? Unforgiveness? Pride? The list of human issues is endless, but the common truth is that none of us are completely “whole”. None of us have arrived at perfection.
We who are believers in Christ are on a life-long journey to become more like him. Along with David, we long for the day when we awake “satisfied” because we are finally in his likeness (Psalm 17:15).
There are many ways that we can choose to deal with our struggles, whether they are relational, financial, emotional, physical, mental or spiritual. Sometimes our “go to” mentality is that our problems are always someone else’s fault; we blame. At other times, we deny we have any issues. We try to ignore them; we push them down into our emotional abyss. Other times we exaggerate them or minimize them.

Honest Anger
Posted by: | Comments
A few years ago, I invited a counselor friend of mine, Susi Harbour, to come to our ladies’ retreat and administer a personality test to our ladies. I had already taken it once and thought it would be fun and useful for the ladies of our church to know more about themselves and how they ticked. Susi suggested adding an anger inventory to the activity. “Okay, sure,” I said. I suppose I didn’t quite get the purpose of the whole thing, but I figured it’d be interesting.

When It’s Time to Tell the Truth
Posted by: | Comments
Telling the truth seems to be straightforward idea, right? You just tell it like it is and that’s that, right?
As a follower of Christ, my life is built on and dedicated to truth, so it should be easy to just tell the truth. It’s black and white, right? Well, yes…. and no.
