How Do We Live in Peace?

peace that passes understanding “God, grant me serenity…”

I joined hands with the group of people. Most bowed their heads and closed their eyes.  “God, grant us serenity to accept the things we cannot change, courage to change the things we can, and wisdom to know the difference.

Over the many months of my counseling training at an addiction treatment center, the ritual repeated itself daily. I found the ground to be level as group leaders and recovering addicts and alcoholics joined in this daily humble prayer. Certainly I needed this serenity, this courage, and this wisdom as much as anyone in the group.

Serenity.

Peace.

Tranquility.

Calmness.

In today’s quick fix world, we all want to know how do we get serenity and how do we get it right now?
