Can You Hear Me Now?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

hearing“Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?”

Verizon Wireless brilliantly captured millions by saying what no one was openly saying at the time: cell phone reception isn’t always great. The message of how frustrating it is to not be heard struck a chord with multitudes who switched to Verizon hoping they would be heard clearly more often.

Deeper still is the longing to be heard that rises from every human heart. Truly heard. Understood. Often and clearly.

In my counseling practice, it is important that I understand my clients.  I often pray that God will allow me to draw from the deep waters of a client’s heart (Proverbs 20:5). When that happens, that tangible gift of understanding, I know it. I feel it. God is with us in the moment and He invites us into the deep waters. Understanding comes. Healing comes.

Why God Asks Questions

Posted by: | Comments (1)

questionWhat is the last question God asked you? On first impulse, you might say, “God doesn’t ask questions; He knows everything.” And that He does, however God is a master question-asker. What kind of questions does He ask and what is the purpose of His questioning?

SOME OCCASIONS GOD ASKED QUESTIONS

God asked Adam, “Where are you? Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree?”

God asked Eve, “What have you done?”

When Cain murdered Abel, God asked, “What have you done?”

God asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Is anything too hard for the LORD?”

GOD’S PURPOSE IN ASKING A QUESTION

The questions of God are laden with purpose…targeted…cutting…they reveal our heart.

I’m Sorry

Posted by: | Comments (1)

apology-couple Like molasses reluctantly ascending from an overturned jar, my words moved from somewhere deep within. The battle raged. I wanted to apologize, and yet, I didn’t. One part of my heart was tender, caring, and repentant. Another part was calloused, stubborn, and selfish.

My two natures each sought victory. I identified with Paul, remembering the words he spoke in Romans 7 of the inner war. For the moment, my Christ’ nature won, yet often my flesh nature waves its victory flag.

Why is it so difficult to say those two little words? I’m sorry.

We can’t maintain healthy relationships without humility and repentance, but we all struggle to allow Christ to rule in our hearts.  My flesh nature and your flesh nature are never truly dead in this life and frequently resurrect to remind us.

How Are You Using Your Influence?

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Perhaps nothing is as beautiful as a woman full of God’s power and presence and nothing as destructive as a woman consumed by her own power and presence.

From the beginning, woman was declared by God Himself to be not only “good” as he declared the rest of his creation, but “very good”. She was made by God with purpose and power. She was to compliment Adam and rule and reign alongside him.

She, like all of God’s creation, was crowned with beauty. She was created from man, made from man’s rib. Scripture tells us that she was made to be a “helper comparable” to man. In the same language God uses to describe the Holy Spirit as the one who would be our “helper”, empowering us to walk in the fullness of God’s plans, woman was purposed to bring completion and fullness to creation. In particular, she was to give Adam what he did not have without her.

Does Anyone Understand Me?

Posted by: | Comments (1)

conversation“He just doesn’t get it!” “Why can’t she just hear what I’m saying?” “Why don’t they just say what they mean?”

Ever find it difficult to communicate your heart to someone you care about? Ever been completely misunderstood by a friend or spouse? Well, of course, at times all of us have found ourselves completely bewildered at another human’s inability to understand us and we can feel equally bewildered as we try to understand them.

Good communication is a necessary component of every significant relationship, but how often do we find ourselves scratching our heads in bewilderment or stomping our feet in frustration because someone else has totally NOT understood us or heard our hearts.
