2forgiveness

I felt drawn to spend more time than normal in God’s Word last month. I sensed I needed to strengthen myself in Him and His Word and spend more time in prayer. God was preparing me for the days ahead.

The last couple of weeks, I’ve found myself reading through the book of Psalms. The Psalms are like an old friend to me. I’ve read them so many, many times. They comfort and strengthen me. Their beauty causes me to pause and meditate. I love their honesty. Their lack of pretense. Just real people encountering a real God.

Today as I made my way to Psalm 94, verse 19 jumped off the page.  I’ve read it multiple times but today I saw it. I heard it for the first time.

Chocolate Cake for Breakfast

Posted by: | Comments (4)

chocolate cake Life is always uncertain. Most of the time, I live as if that isn’t true and yet the last two years have consistently reminded me that things can change at any given moment.

My mom has had multiple new health concerns in recent days. Calls from her assisted living facility mean immediate changes in my daily schedule in order to facilitate Mom’s care. Unplanned doctor visits and hospital stays trump my normal life and remind me that I’m not really in control of my life as much as I’d like to believe.

It reminds me of the days when my kids were small and you never knew when a stomach virus or some other unplanned thing would show up to throw a wrench into life’s schedule. Flexibility was a necessity in those days.

A Less Anxious Presence

Posted by: | Comments (3)

sun soakingI recently heard someone say their goal for the year was to have a “less anxious presence”. I immediately loved that phrase and found it came from a book called The Leader’s Journey by Herrington, Creech, and Taylor.  I didn’t recall having heard of the book but jotted down the name, intending to check it out later. However I quickly forgot all about the book.

A few days ago I finally got around to unpacking some books from a week away last October. One of the books was The Leader’s Journey. I had bought the book but not gotten around to reading. it Not yet making the connection, I began reading the book and this morning I saw it. That phrase, “a less anxious presence”.  An aha moment! Once again, my soul and spirit inside me felt the yearning to connect to all that phrase represented.
