An Invitation. A Promise. A Reminder.

I awakened in the pitch black darkness of night and glanced at the clock for the time. 3:33.

Finding Balance in a Busy World

Posted by: | Comments (1)

My life has been busy, very busy, the last few weeks. I seem to have hit one of those whirlwind seasons when all the hats that I wear are asking to be worn at the same time. I am trying to keep the balance but the demands of being a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, friend, pastor, counselor, etc., consume me at times.

One of the most difficult lessons of my life has been how to live well, fully, and stayed anchored to the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit who teaches me when to say yes and when to say no. I find that this ‘lesson’ requires constant revisiting.

Simple Lessons from The Lord’s Prayer

Prayer can feel like a 1,000 piece puzzle sometimes. Religious systems, spiritual leaders, the enemy of our souls, and even our own prideful ways of thinking whisper in our ears that God must certainly require prayer to be difficult. Could we really pray well in less than 75 words?

1. On a mission trip to Trinidad in April 2012, a young Trini woman asked me to pray for her hearing. I had difficulty understanding her because of her accent and because of the loud music playing in the background. However, I did understand that she had a problem with her hearing. I felt impressed to pray for God to do a creative miracle in her hearing and make it just as it was when He created her. Immediately she began to cry and rejoice and tell me that she could hear. It was a stunning moment, both for her and for me. Later this young woman reported that she had lost her hearing in one ear early in life due to repeated ear infections and that the apparatus in her ear for hearing had actually degenerated. Doctors had told her that her that she’d never hear again in that ear. God totally restored her hearing in less than a minute! Wow!

“When I don’t understand, I will choose You. When I don’t understand, I will choose You God. When I don’t understand, I will choose to love you God.”

Bryan and Katie Torwalt’s song, I Breathe You in God, invariably touches the depth of my heart.

How many times have you been in a place where you just didn’t understand where God was in your situation or if He was even there at all? How many times have you groaned with the pain of a seemingly unanswered prayer? When is the last time you felt bewildered, perplexed, and just downright troubled by God’s seeming unresponsiveness to your prayers and His apparent lack of response to your cries for help?

Most of us have been there at one time or another. Some have been there repeatedly.
