A New Season of Hope and Restoration

 Hope-Realized-is-the-Tree-of-Life

Intimate, precious, sacred are the moments when I meet with God and God speaks to me in such personal ways as if to say, “I know you altogether. I am involved in each part of your journey.”

He is always speaking but there are times when His voice becomes so clear, so specific, that I am left in awe because of His heart of love.  These last few months have been times like that for me. They’ve been difficult days in some ways. Stretching moments. Challenging times.  But in the midst of them, I’ve clearly felt God’s direction and His invitation into the deeper waters of His presence. And there, in His presence, He has responded to my heart with overwhelming love. I am amazed at just how intimately He knows me and is working things out on my behalf.

Do You Need a Vacation?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

sun soakingMy idea of a true vacation has changed radically in the last few years. I’ve transitioned from loving the busy, busy, busy days of site-seeing, event-oriented vacations, to deeply longing for quiet, rest, relaxation, and restoration. From soaking in multi-colored sunsets to quiet hours of soul satisfying reading to lengthy conversations with those I love, I find joy and fulfillment in being instead of doing.

Whether I am just becoming older or more mature, lol, or I’ve just been there and done that and got the t-shirt, I find that simple pleasures are the best ones.

And yet, life tends to pull me into a stream of busy swirling activity. I must purposefully mark my calendar with times of non-activity. Times to watch movies with my husband. Times to read that book. Times to watch that sunrise. Times for communing with God. Times to watch my granddaughter laugh and dance and play.

Deep thought (1) When I meditate on this topic, I have the feeling that this will be a long train running. Although my thoughts may be jumping around like popcorn popping, I hope and trust that when the popping stops, it will all fit.

One of the thoughts I have proposed in these blogs is that in the process of God restoring our souls, He uses difficult seasons of our lives and dark places like the ‘valley of the shadow of death’ and ‘the presence of our enemies’.

While I personally hate these dark places and resist them, God is not afraid of them. In fact, He is there with His rod and His staff to comfort me and guide me through them.

What happens during dark seasons that invites us into a deeper place of soul restoration?

cloudsThe question I have posed, what does it mean to have your soul restored, is an easy one – and a difficult one. Perhaps a first answer would include the return of our soul to God’s intended original condition. Surely restoration of a soul would include its return to its former dignity, if we speak in terms of returning to the glory of a soul as created by God.

This idea of restoration is what we, as followers of Christ, recognize as the ultimate plan of our Father. Glimpses of heaven as recorded in Revelation show us the restoration of all to God’s original plan. Acts 3:21 tells us that God is in the process of restoring all things.
