Thanksgiving Reflections from My Heart to YoursBy
I awakened early today. Drawn into the still quiet moments while awaiting the sun’s arrival, I heard lyrics playing in my head. “Your constant grace remains my cornerstone.” A gentle joy filled my heart as I thought of what a perfect Thanksgiving reflection those lyrics express.
The years come and go. Life’s transitions continue but my constant cornerstone truly remains the mercy and grace of God.
Psalm 136 beautifully expresses what my heart feels. “Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, … Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven! For His mercy endures forever.”
God’s good heart remains constant amidst the ever changing days of my life. He has been and continues to be faithful to me.
As I reflect on this last year, my heart is full.
I am thankful for my health today. God healed my long existing thyroid disease this year. My husband is enjoying wonderful health.
My daughter and son-in-law are anticipating the arrival of their first born, a son, after a long wait.
My baby, who is a grown man, lol, got engaged to a wonderful young woman this last year.
I’ve watched my oldest son and daughter-in-law spread their wings and discover new areas of strength and giftedness. My grandchildren are healthy and happy and busy!
My middle son is learning more and more of who God has made him to be.
My brother’s children both have new babies this year, as well.
And along with the joy, sadness is always a part of family gatherings as I feel the empty places in my heart and long for those many I love who are no longer around the table.
I miss my mom very much this Thanksgiving. Cooking and serving was such a part of her life and as I cook and serve, she’s pretty much always in my thoughts. Red-Velvet Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Sweet Potato Casserole are in her honor today.
Life continues to be about change and growth. So today as the chatter and laughter happen around my table, I will smile and my heart will be full. I will thank God for His constant grace that enables me to live well, brings joy into all areas of my life, and gives me hope for all of my tomorrows.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all from my heart to yours.
